How much is an 8mm copy of 'Deep Throat' Worth?!

Okay so this maybe a bit odd for many people to see on my blog. Anyone who is here to checkup on my gaming habits and thoughts on the gaming or PC industry should probably bypass this one unless you don't mind going into a bit of risque and taboo ground. I am speaking about the thing industry that made the Internet such an instant success, the pornography industry.

Well first let me give some background on the problem at hand. I recently bought a house, a really old house in Philadelphia that hasn't been updated since the 70s time frame. It WAS complete with wood paneling, crazy carpeting, including shag carpeting and even carpet on the wall. Oh let use not forget about the drop tile ceiling. Now seeing as I am a 20-something, this wasn't really my taste. Actually I probably don't have what anyone would consider 'tastes' in this area but I do know that I hate carpeting in general, wood paneling and possibly more than anything, drop tile ceiling. So friends and I quickly began ripping all of the 70s out of my house. While doing so we came across a hidden compartment that was next to the bed in the master bedroom. Low and behold, I found some ancient porn including old mags and even 8mm adult films.

So thats the background of the topic, really not that taboo unless you hate pornography which many people do. The reason I am reaching out to the greater JoeUser.com community is because its the largest, all-purpose Internet community that I belong to and I need help gathering some information. You see one of those porno's that I found is the infamous "Deep Throat" and I want to sell it feeling that its worth something. Despite my best efforts I have found little information on the movie's original release formats and what it may potentially be worth. According to completed eBay Auctions there has never been a sale of “Deep Throat" on 8mm, which makes me think it maybe worth something. I know I could just slap up and auction and hope for the best but I would prefer to get some background information so I know what range it maybe worth, getting ripped off is never fun. If anyone has any tips, even a forum that I could join to ask these questions it would be greatly appreciated, cause I am completey out of ideas and don't know what else to Google... Also Craigslist.com asks that no pornography related stuff be posted, so don't bother suggesting that I guess.

Hmm, what a find! I'm responding because of my history with the very same flick, in written form, I retold a tale about my mom finding the book where I hid it when I was a teen and I never saw it again! That's my history with it. But couple months ago I read that the actress Linda Boreman (Linda Lovelace) had died. Then just two weeks ago while channel surfing I tuned in to a BIO on how the movie came about.

I know, I'm sorry, had to regale you with my thoughts as I read your piece, but I'm sure your movie find would be worth something especially since it's in a 8mm format. Films are not made that way anymore, as you know, everything is digital. Is your film in a can or on a reel? The value would also depend on the condition it's in.

I would say contact The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences to see if they might know of any collectors, maybe they have a website, I didn't Google it so I don't know.

Then of course there are people who do collect films regardless of porn or not. Maybe Ebay might not be the place. There's a film community at this Link Any one can buy and sell film and equipment but you have to register, and there is a contact info, perhaps you can contact them and see if they can point you in the right direction. Also there is a UK company, rake@enterprise54.freeserve.co.uk, don't know, you can contact them, whether they buy porn..don't know that either!

Oh yeah, I just thought of those people that do value/appraise finds that show on TV, I can't even remember the name right now, you can contact them too. Maybe someone else might remember the show I'm talking about.

Heh, I remember a friend of mine in high school who had a t-shirt that said:

I CHOKED LINDA LOVELACE

Haha funny t-shirt.

And I believe you are referring to the Antique Roadshow foreverserenity. Not sure if they would like trying to price that item although I would certainly boost the ratings a little bit, at least for the risque factor!

I have still had 0 luck finding anything substantial out, can't even confirm that it was released on the 8mm format (want to make sure its not some sort of knock off) but the folks at 8mm Forum from film-tech.com have given me some pointers on things like handling the film and how to identify what it maybe. Thats at least a start.
